Your digital cook book
Yummysoup! is a simple yet excellent recipe management application.
Back in the day, everyone used to have a good old recipe book where they would write down their favorite recipes. Nowadays, the net makes it so much easier not only to find but also collect recipes from around the world.
One of the great things with Yummysoup! is that actually comes with recipes, and I don't mean a half dozen basic recipes, but rather a very large list of good, rich recipes, from cakes to main courses, appetizers or drinks. All recipes are organized in folders and you can create your own smart lists. The thumbnail view at the top is great to browse quickly through your ideas, or you can use the search function.
Yummysoup! best features though is its web importer. You can find any recipe online and easily import it into Yummysoup!, adding the image and organizing all the elements like ingredients, yield and directions. Yummysoup! also allows you to create your very own shopping list for each recipe.
To this day, Yummysoup! is the best application to add and manage all your favorite recipes on your Mac.

It's lost the race..
There was a time when YummySoup! was the best recipe app out there, hands down. Then the developer seemed to have lost interest. He kept promising a new version, and it's now about three years later and there's nothing new to be found. The developer constantly deletes questions about the still-forthcoming version 3 on Facebook, allowing others to believe that somehow it's still being developed. Many promises have been broken, especially to paying customers who bought the iOS app with the promise that it would someday easily sync over icloud with the desktop app. It still doesn't. In the meantime, Paprika has taken the lead, offering all that YummySoup! promised and more. More

WOW!!!.
We've been using Yummysoup! for something like a year now, and would be totally lost without it! The easy way it imports recipes from anywhere, and the automatic imports from allrecipes.com (our favorite!) make it a no-brainer for our "cookbook" needs. Emailing recipes is dead simple, and apparently setting it up to share the recipes between our computers at home wasn't difficult either (I didn't actually do it, but there was no grumbling, so it's a pretty safe assumption). We don't use the shopping list function much because we have a shopper app for our phones, but it seems quite useful and intuitive. All in all, I have no idea how we got on before this!My only complaints - no iPhone app, and it can't import a scanned recipe (as far as I know) so if you want to add a recipe from a cookbook or magazine you have to enter it by hand. Not a HUGE issue, but it might be for some.
Pros:
very intuitive; full screen option; easy import; easy to add categories
Cons:
no iPhone app; does not (to my knowledge) import from .pdf/.jpg More
